Instructions
  1. In a large bowl mix in all the ingredients until they are well combined and form a soft dough.
  2. Line a cookie tray/ baking tin with parchment paper.
  3. Divide the cookie dough into 25- 30 equal portions.
  4. Roll each portion into a smooth round ball between your palms and slightly flatten it. [You may make a pattern on top using a fork]
  5. Repeat the same with rest of the dough.
  6. Place the shaped cookies in the prepared baking tray, about 2 inches apart from each other.
  7. Refrigerate for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Pre heat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes.
  9. Bake the cookies in the pre heated oven at 150 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  10. Transfer onto a cooling rack after 5 minutes.
  11. Allow to cool completely before storing in an air tight container.
Recipe Notes

Oven temperature and time may vary. Bake until the cookie edges start to turn a light shade of brown.

These cookies tend to spread a little, thus placing them a little apart is important.

Chilling the cookie dough helps to maintain the shape of the cookie while baking it.

In case your cookie dough feel too soft or buttery, you may add a couple of spoons of all purpose flour or a little more of the gulab jamun mix to adjust the consistency.

I used MTR's readymade gulab jamun mix for the above recipe.

For this particular recipe, it is important to use unsalted butter only. Since the gulab jamun mix already has added salt, using salted butter will effect the taste of the cookie.

Do let me know how this turns out for you.

  • Hi akila..i made gulabjamuncookies few tymes.in that its mentioned small amount of butter..but after adding that the mix remain like sand only.need to add more to roll it up…for that i need almost 180 gms of butter..nearly 1 nd 3/4th packets..then only i cud shape them.after mixing i shape them and keep in fridge for 10 mts then bake.why is that so….where i m going wrong.can u pls help me

    • Hi Priya. In that case you can reduce the amount of jamun mix powder by 1/2 a cup. Perhaps the cup measurements we used vary. No worries. Also in case you feel [any] cookie dough starts to feel dry or crumbly , use a little bit of melted butter to bring it together. Adding too much butter would make shaping the cookies tougher and also the cookies with too much butter tend to spread out during baking.

  • Tats wat i m doing now…instead of decreasing jamun mix I added more butter as I said in the previous msg…they tastes awesome..only thing my cookies are slight golden to brown coloured nd bit cracky.is tat ok..apart from looks they tastes great..i pmd in ur messenger with a pic..thnks akhila

  • Hi Akila, even I had same problem. After mixing all the ingredients the dough was not coming together. I used standard US measuring cup. Then I added a tsp of orange zest and little orange juice to form dough and bAked.
