Makhana Pops/ Fox Nut Crunchies

Lotus seeds/ fox nuts / phool makhanas are quite versatile in their usage since they have a mild flavour and a texture that can be played with. I have used them in curries, desserts and now for a quick crunchy snack too.

These makhana pops can be made in less than 10 minutes and taste a lot like popcorn. Healthy, tasty and a super easy snack for kids and adults alike.

Have fun.

Instructions
  1. Pre heat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl toss all the ingredients together, except the chat masala, until the makhanas are well coated with the spices and ghee. [It is a good idea to use a large tiffin box/ a container with a lid to help mix up everything well]
  3. Transfer onto a large baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake in the pre heated oven at 150 degrees for 5-7 minutes. [Or until the makhanas turn slightly brown]
  5. Remove from the oven. Sprinkle some chat masala and the foxnut pops are ready to be served.
Recipe Notes
  • Oven temperature and time may vary. Do take care not to let the lotus seeds char or burn.
  • You can prepare this over a gas stove too. [But I find the crunchiness of the baked version much better]
  • Choose any spices or flavours of your choice to create different variations of the same snack.
