Mango panakam is a delicious sweet and tangy summer cooler. This soothing drink is prepared with raw mangoes and jaggery as the main ingredients.
Summer is a fabulous time to stock your fridge with fresh cooling drinks. This summer my family and I have been indulging in mangoes and mango based dishes of all sorts. Hubby tried various versions of aam-daal [a raw mango-lentil dish] ,I made aamras [a smooth pureed mango side dish] for my son’s lunchbox, then a yummy coconut-mango pudding and several other things.
Last week I decided to make a ‘mango’ version of the traditional panakam/panagam which is a yummy jaggery drink made especially during Ram Navami. This is so easy and tastes absolutely delicious.
I have used “totapuri” mangoes / Kili mooku mangai for this recipe. I love how this particular variety has a wonderful balance of sweet and tart. This one is great for a quick spicy raw mango pickle too.
This recipe is super simple with just 2 main ingredients- mango and jaggery . I am sure you will love this easy tasty summer cooler . My 2.5 year old definitely did – see what happened halfway through my ‘photoshoot’.
