Oats and Apple Crumble Pie

Oats and Apple Crumble Pie

Preparation
  1. Dry roast and grind the oats.
  2. Roast the wheat germ until it gives a toasty aroma.
  3. Peel the apple and cut into thin slices using a mandolin slicer.
  4. Line a loose bottom tin/ pie mold with parchment paper. [ I used a 6 inch pie mold]
  5. Cut the cold butter into small cubes.
Making the crumble pie
  1. Mix the cane sugar, toasted wheat germ and powdered oats together in a large bowl.
  2. Add the cold butter and mix it in with your fingers.
  3. You will have a bread crumb like mixture.
  4. Transfer half of this crumble to the lined baking dish and press it down evenly to get the 'pie base'.
  5. Coat the apple slices with cinnamon powder.
  6. Arrange over the crumble base. [Cover the entire surface with a layer of apple slices]
  7. Sprinkle some of the crumble over the apple slices and place another layer of cinnamon coated apples on top.
  8. Repeat step 7 until you use up all the apple slices.
  9. Cover the top with the remaining crumble and press down to get an even surface.
  10. Place an aluminium foil and press it over the pie surface.
  11. Place another baking tin on the aluminium foil such that the base of the tin presses down on the pie.
  12. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  13. Pre heat the oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees.
  14. Bake the apple crumble pie at 160 degrees for 20 minutes / until it turns golden brown. [ keep the whole setting - with the aluminium foil and the baking tin on top while baking]
  15. Allow to cool completely.
  16. Refrigerate for 10 minutes and slice.
